Wine Making and Homebrew Kits - Hop Shop UK

Welcome to the Hop Shop. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Our specialist homebrew shop was established over 30 years ago in Plymouth. This website shows most of the brewing and wine making items we stock which are available either in the shop or online.

Our wide range of homebrew kits includes those to brew bitter, brown ale, cider, lager, porter and stout manufactured by Brewferm, Brewmaker, Brupaks, Coopers, Edme, Geordie, John Bull, Muntons, Tom Caxton, Woodforde’s and Young’s. Our homebrewing ingredients section contains hops, grain, malt extract and yeast. Check out the equipment section if you want a barrel, boiler, bottle capper, gas burner, grain mill, mash tun, pH meter, sparge arm or thermometer. Suppliers include Brupaks, Latstock, Stevenson Reeves, Thorne Electrim and Weltonhurst.

We stock wine making kits from Beaverdale, BelVino, Butlers, Carafe, Favourite, Grande Maison, Heron Bay, Solomon Grundy, Solvino, Vinamat, Vigneron, Wine Art and Winexpert (Selection and Vintners Reserve). Acid, dried flowers, fruit, nutrient, sterilizers and yeast are all in the winemaking ingredients section and for a bucket, corker, fermenter, filter, fruit press, heater, steam juicer, straining bag or Rumtopf look in our winemaking equipment section. Here our suppliers include Buon Vino, Ferrari, Harris, Vigo and Young’s.

If it’s a home brew starter kit you want we have a choice for both wine and beer as well as a range of books on making beers, wines and liqueurs at home.

We offer a comprehensive range of homebrew products, a high level of customer service, a good level of stock availability and the expertise to advise.

As always we appreciate your feedback and support: sales@hopshopuk.com

Collections & Deliveries

Collections
Do give us a call on 01752 660382 if you would like to arrange to collect any items we stock from Tavistock. If you can let us know your requirements before 5pm your order should be ready for collection by 9 am on the next working day from ‘Hearth & Home’ at 4 Vigo Bridge Road, Tavistock. Payment by credit card can be arranged when you place your order, or alternatively you can leave a cheque or cash when you collect. Please contact us with your orders, and not Hearth & Home. Whilst neither John nor Ken knows much about Wine and Beer making, they are both extremely knowledgeable in their own fields. They have combined their ranges in one location when they stock Gas Fires, Wood burners, Fireplaces and Accessories, Reproduction Furniture in Mahogany and Yew, Solid Mahogany Furniture, Cane Furniture and Hardwood Garden Furniture. For further information follow this link to their own websites at www.Folletts.com and www.tavistockgas.co.uk.

Deliveries
We live in Tavistock, and are therefore able to offer a free regular evening Home Delivery Service to Plymouth, Bere Alston, Yelverton, Horrabridge and Tavistock or to Saltash, Callington, Gunnislake and Tavistock, depending on which route we take on our way home. Deliveries are often made the same day but do depend on how busy we are. As we provide this service after a normal day's work it would really motivate us if the orders could be over about £20!

Limited Edition Selection Wine Kits

April 2nd, 2008

We now have the first of this years Limited Edition Selection Wines in stock. Each contains 16 litres of 100% pure varietal grape juice and premium grade concentrate. They all produce 30 bottles of premium quality wine with superior flavour, aroma and complexity.

Due to their immense popularity and limited availability early ordering of these wine kits is strongly advised .

Vina, a major wholesaler of wine and beer making products, is to close on March 28th.

March 22nd, 2008

SadWe are sad to hear that one of our wholesale suppliers, Vina, will be closing at the end of the week.  Vina started trading from a single fronted shop in College Road, Crosby, Liverpool in 1964 and as it grew moved to larger premises firstly in St John’s Road, then to Marsh Lane Bootle, on to Hornby Boulevard again in Bootle before their last move to premises in Newark. We have been buying from them for the past 23 years.

Many of the products we sell came exclusively from them and it looks as if we may not be able to source further supplies. These include beers such as Bargain Brew, Brewmaker, Essential, John Bull / Masterclass and Milestone with Essential,  Grande Maison, Heron Bay and Wine Art Wines along with many items of equipment.

We will try to keep our website up to date with the items still available but please bear with us as we come to terms with the loss of a major supplier.

Our best wishes go to all those at Vina who have looked after us and who will now be looking for new employment.

It’s a sad day for this trade!

Hop Harvest 2007

November 7th, 2007

As a result of seasons poor harvest the price of hops has increased sharply and already some varieties are unavailable.hops.jpg

We will be trying to keep supplies in stock but expect that we will be unable to supply the wide range we have in the past.

Extreme Alcohol Technology

June 9th, 2007

Alcotec 23% Turbo YeastWe now have in stock the latest product from Alcotec, their new Alcotec 23% Turbo Yeast. This will produce 23% alcohol using 10.5 kgs of brewing sugar (dextrose monohydrate). YOU CANNOT USE NORMAL SUGAR.

It has been produced with a new recipe with added carbon and minerals and should be cleared using Alcotec TurboKlar.

Wyeast Propagator Packs

May 28th, 2006

Wyeast Laboratories have repackaged their range of smack packs in smart new livery and renamed them Propagator Packs.  Whilst  the instructions used to state that a starter culture could be made they now suggest that it should be done every time.

A 1 Litre Erlemmeyer Flask from our glassware section would be an ideal container for growing on these cultures prior to pitching. Pitching a  large quantity of heathy yeast cells into a well aerated wort is one of the most important aspects of brewing the importance of which is often overlooked.
