High alcohol super yeasts.
This range of yeasts is intended for the production of alcohol at concentrations of up to 23%.
Apart from the 'Spirit Base Kit' they each produce up to 5 gallons & have differing sugar requirements.
Clear clean high alcohol bases for mixers & for the additon of essences.
Choose the yeast best suited for your intended use & add the essences of preference.
They are not intended to ferment out either beers or wines but rather to produce the base for liqueurs.
The alcohol level can be further increased, in countries where this is permitted, by distillation.
Alcotec Super Turbo Yeast 24£3.30
This is extremely powerful yeast (allow plenty of ventilation) as it will ferment out up to 14% 6kg of sugar in 25 litres of water in normally only 24 hours.
Use it when you are in a hurry!
The use of Brewing Sugar in place of ordinary sugar will produce the fastest/cleanest ferment.
It is fairly tolerant to temperature and works within the range of 20C - 30C, with 25C providing the best results.
The use of activated carbon is highly recommended with this yeast in order to clear the brew of any residual nutrient in suspension post fermentation.
You may also require...
25 litre / 5 gallon Screw Top Plastic Fermenter£14.50
25 litre / 5 gallon screw top plastic wine, beer or cider fermenter with a 10 cm diameter opening wide enough to put your hand in for cleaning.
It comes complete with a bored screw cap with its O ring seal but you will need both a standard size demijohn bung and an airlock to use it for fermenting.
Approx dims:Height 52 cm, Diameter 30 cm.
To minimise the possibility of distortion it is recommended that luke warm rather than boiling water be poured into this fermenter.
Brewing & Winemaking Sugar - 1kg£2.10
This will produce a finer, cleaner & faster ferment.
The sugar is a spray dried glucose (aka dextrose) which dissolves easily in cold liquids to form a syrup and importantly leaves no after taste.
Being 100% fermentable, it promotes fast fermentation & can be used for priming during the secondary fermentation.
It is is highly recommended for use in making beers, liqueurs and wines in preference to household sugar (sucrose - being glucose+fructose, with the yeast first having to convert the unfermentable fructose into fermentable glucose prior to fermentation).
Well worth the extra pence per pint or bottle.
Wine and Beer Hydrometer - Triple Scale - With Trial Jar£4.95
A great French made Triple Scale (specific gravity, sugar and potential alcohol) Wine and Beer Hydrometer complete with a clear plastic trial jar and full instructions.
The gravity scale has a wide range with readings from 0.980 to 1.150, useful for those high alcohol readings up to approx. 20% abv.
Maximum overall height of the trial jar is 34cm.
Spirit Alcohol Meter£4.25
This alcohol meter is intended for use with spirit only.
It does this by measuring the density of the liquid compared to that of alcohol.
Any residual sugars, dissolved carbon dioxide, yeast in suspension or other solids remaining after fermentation will affect this density & result in a false low reading.
Therefore, it will not work for wine, beer, liqueur, turbo yeast wash etc.
It will measure the correct alcohol by volume at a liquid temperature of 20°C.
Liquid Activated Carbon - treats 20 to 25 litres£3.50
A pack of liquid activated carbon sufficient to remove unwanted fermentation products from 20 to 25 litres of base spirit.
We then recommend the use of a fining such as Alcotec TurboKlar 24 to remove the carbon!
