Better Bottle Dry Trap

These air locks are precision check valves made of an incredibly tough, proprietary PET that does not stain or impart flavours and is easily cleaned and sterilized. A polished ceramic ball rests in a tapered seat to create a one-way seal. Fermentation gases can escape easily by pushing the ball up, but air is blocked from flowing in the reverse direction.
These fit into the centre of the Closure, replacing the plain plug. Dry Traps have many advantages compared to liquid-filled air locks, chief among them is that there is no liquid to run dry, blow out or suck back and as they add only 4.4cm to the height of the carboy they reduce the height needed for storage.
